<a class=\"Qwps1 _8zT4p\" href=\"https:\/\/meteofrance.com\/magazine\/meteo-questions\/quelle-est-la-difference-entre-la-banquise-et-la-calotte-glaciaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"WebLink\"><u>Contrairement \u00e0 la banquise<\/u><\/a>, form\u00e9e \u00e0 la surface de la mer et constitu\u00e9e d&rsquo;eau sal\u00e9e, la calotte glaciaire (ou inlandsis) est constitu\u00e9e de glaciers d&rsquo;eau douce reposant sur un substrat rocheux.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-uqz0o184280\" class=\"E0qnV MObmT Ms0q1 a144M\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"rpoEi\">Il arrive cependant que ces glaciers se prolongent jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 la surface oc\u00e9anique et flottent sur l&rsquo;eau : on parle alors de plates-formes de glace. Ces barri\u00e8res glaciaires jouent un r\u00f4le d\u00e9cisif dans la stabilit\u00e9 de l&rsquo;Antarctique, puisqu&rsquo;elles permettent de <a class=\"Qwps1 _8zT4p\" href=\"https:\/\/agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1029\/2019GL085027\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"WebLink\"><u>limiter le d\u00e9versement des glaces continentales dans l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an<\/u><\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-ryxn226212\" class=\"E0qnV MObmT Ms0q1 a144M\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"rpoEi\">Le d\u00e9r\u00e8glement du climat, qui contribue au r\u00e9chauffement de l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an Austral, et plus sp\u00e9cifiquement de la mer d&rsquo;Amundsen, a pour cons\u00e9quence la fonte des plates-formes de glace. Un tel ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne favorise en retour l&rsquo;\u00e9coulement des glaciers terrestres vers l&rsquo;oc\u00e9an. La calotte glaciaire de l&rsquo;Antarctique occidental est ainsi en <a class=\"Qwps1 _8zT4p\" href=\"https:\/\/issues.fr\/point-de-non-retour-un-glacier-majeur-de-lantarctique-a-subi-un-retrait-irreversible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"WebLink\"><u>tr\u00e8s net retrait<\/u><\/a>\u00a0depuis plusieurs d\u00e9cennies et pourrait \u00e0 terme s&rsquo;effondrer enti\u00e8rement, ce qui provoquerait <a class=\"Qwps1 _8zT4p\" href=\"https:\/\/reporterre.net\/L-Antarctique-bombe-a-retardement-de-la-montee-de-eaux\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"WebLink\"><u>une mont\u00e9e du niveau des oc\u00e9ans de plus de 5 m\u00e8tres<\/u><\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-flf3q192042\" class=\"E0qnV MObmT Ms0q1 a144M\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"rpoEi\">Dans un article <a class=\"Qwps1 _8zT4p\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41558-023-01818-x\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"WebLink\"><u>publi\u00e9 dans la revue Nature Climate Change<\/u><\/a> en octobre 2023, les chercheurs Kaitlin A. Naughten, Paul R. Holland et Jan De Rydt s&rsquo;efforcent de comprendre plus en d\u00e9tail ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne. Cette \u00e9tude est la premi\u00e8re \u00e0 proposer une analyse qui prenne en compte plusieurs sc\u00e9narios diff\u00e9rents, allant d&rsquo;un r\u00e9chauffement limit\u00e9 \u00e0 1,5\u00b0C d&rsquo;ici la fin du si\u00e8cle \u00e0 une hypoth\u00e8se de r\u00e9chauffement beaucoup plus pessimiste (sc\u00e9nario dit RCP 8.5).<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-qgo6e8621\" class=\"E0qnV MObmT Ms0q1 a144M\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"rpoEi\">Pour l&rsquo;ensemble des sc\u00e9narios \u00e9tudi\u00e9s, le r\u00e9chauffement anticip\u00e9 de la mer d&rsquo;Amundsen est significatif et implique une fonte importante des plates-formes glaciaires. La mer d&rsquo;Amundsen devrait ainsi conna\u00eetre un niveau de r\u00e9chauffement compris entre 0,8\u00b0C et 1,4\u00b0C d&rsquo;ici la fin du si\u00e8cle, contre une moyenne historique de 0,25\u00b0C au cours du XXe si\u00e8cle.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-6iqjb57618\" class=\"E0qnV MObmT Ms0q1 a144M\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"rpoEi\">Que le r\u00e9chauffement global du climat atteigne 1,5\u00b0C ou qu&rsquo;il avoisine les 3\u00b0C d&rsquo;ici 2100, les niveaux de r\u00e9chauffements des eaux et de fonte des glaces anticip\u00e9s en Antarctique occidental au cours des d\u00e9cennies \u00e0 venir sont relativement similaires. Cependant, au cours de ce si\u00e8cle, les efforts entrepris pour att\u00e9nuer le d\u00e9r\u00e8glement du climat ne permettront manifestement pas de pr\u00e9server les glaces de l&rsquo;Arctique occidental, aussi importants soient ils.<\/span><\/p><\/div><div data-breakout=\"normal\"><p id=\"viewer-8eqyd102722\" class=\"E0qnV MObmT Ms0q1 a144M\" dir=\"auto\"><span class=\"rpoEi\">Comment expliquer de tels r\u00e9sultats ? Les plates-formes de glace de la calotte de l&rsquo;Antarctique occidental reposent sur une couche d&rsquo;eau froide relativement superficielle, dont les temp\u00e9ratures moyennes s&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e8vent \u00e0 -1,5\u00b0C environ, et sous laquelle circule une couche d&rsquo;eau l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus chaude (environ 1\u00b0C).
